Speech of Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valeriy Fal’kov in the Kremlin
on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of RUDN University
Dear guests, today our country is celebrating the Day of Science that is why, first of all, I would like to congratulate you all on this eminent occasion, wish you further success, endeavours, and achievements! And also today, we would like to extend our congratulations to the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia on its 60th anniversary.
No doubt there are universities of more venerable age in Russia but the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia is truly unique. In the mid-twentieth century it was established to educate the countries in desperate need in high-qualified specialists. Although the university mission has changed over years, RUDN University remains the place where people study and do research by their own volition, regardless of their religious, racial or other affiliation.
Sticking to the principles of friendship and mutual support, the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia trains world elite. It is here where the foundations of future cooperation of researchers and specialists are laid, where young people of different cultures and traditions learn to understand and accept each other.
Dear friends, you are leaders and it creates obligations. To be a leader in our rapidly changing world implies nourishing traditions and preserving the unique university spirit, on the one hand, and setting ambitious goals and non-trivial tasks, on the other. Being a leader means having a strong development programme and realizing what is happening around. Being a leader means having a long agenda and good relations with everyone who is interested in the university development – with alumni, businesses, other universities, state, civil society.
I’d like to wish the tight-knit team of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia new achievements, new victories and all the best.
